Russia 10 – 14 April 2018

Our trip to St Petersburg (Russia) was an experience that not one of the 10 SBT students who went on this trip will ever forget. The combination of world class ballet, delicious food, informative guides, history, architecture, culture and great people to share this with, made this an extremely memorable trip.

St Petersburg is a city of 5 million people. It is often listed in the top 10 for the most beautiful cities in the world. The historic architecture of the city centre has largely been preserved and the pride that the people of St Petersburg have in their historical centre is notable in the tidiness of the city. Traffic however was a little chaotic and a little nerve wracking at times!

As part of the Dance Open Festival which the SBT students took part in, the students attended daily classes under the tuition of some big names in ballet such as Leonid Sarafanov (Principal dancer of Mikhailovsky Theatre) & Igor Petrov (Senior Ballet Master of the Mariinsky Ballet). They also had the opportunity to perform on the stage of the Hermitage Theatre and represented Southern Ballet extremely well.  Watching the Mariinsky Ballet perform ’Stone Flower’ was also a highlight as was watching the international stars from around the world compete in the Dance Open competition.

Some feedback from the students:

Charlotte & Juliette Gray said they loved the experience - a trip they will never forget and loved all the training and watching the amazing ballet and competition.

Isabel Norris - "I absolutely loved the Dance Open Festival as it was an amazing experience that provided an array of opportunities to meet and be taught by so many international students and coaches! It was also amazing to just be in Russia and involved in the atmosphere!"

Charlotte McKay - "A highlight for me was the Dance Open competition and watching the stars dance. My favourite dancer is Iana Salenko and I got to watch her perform Pas de Diane from Esmeralda with her partner. Bakhtiyar Adamzhan. It was an amazing experience.”

On behalf of the group who travelled to Russia,  a special thank you to Miss Lucy for taking us, Marion for all her organisation, the SBT board for their support and the SBT community for supporting the fundraising & cake stalls.

Gina Haines interview with
Lorraine Peters QSM

Hello lovelies xxx
Off the back of my recent Mothers' Day celebrations, it's with a lot of love and joy that this week I get to share my mother with you all - because
this week's GinaHainesTV Work-Happiness Superstar... is none other than
my amazing mother, the fabulous Lorraine Peters, QSM!

Mum is an amazing woman, way ahead of her time, an inspirational ballet teacher -
now in her eighties and still going strong.

In this interview, my Mum, aka Lorraine Peters :), shares her absolute
passion for music and ballet. She talks about her perfectionism and attention to detail in the technique she insists upon and imparts to her dance-students,
through her own 'Russian inspired' teaching methodology.
She shares some of her secrets, successes, challenges, and says she'd
"do it all again..." For Mum, "work-happiness is life," and so far it has been.
Thanks Mum - I have learned sooo much from you xxx

I'd love you to check out Mum's delightful video and please comment, like it, share it and check out more interviews at GinaHainesTV
